Stranger Things Season 2 Recap

• Chapter 1- The arrival of a new Girl in the town

In the first episode of season 2, the town is still recovering from the horrifying events shown in the previous season. A new girl with extraordinary power arrives in the town of Hawkins. She is a girl with the power to make people things that don’t exist. Also, she has a tattoo on her arm i.e. 008

With her criminal gang, she robbed a bank and ran away from Pittsburgh. Now, a new girl “Maxine” enters the school and captures everybody’s attention. Next, Jim Hopper goes to investigate the pumpkin field. As, something unusual and mysterious rooting of land is going on there.

While Will is experiencing consequent hallucinations of the alternate dimension. So, his mother & Jim take him for routine medical examinations.

Meanwhile, the gate to the Upside Down is growing which worries Dr. Sam Owens (Hawkins Labs’ new director). At the end of the episode, it is revealed that Mr. Hopper is secretly living in the woods with Eleven.

• Chapter 2 – The Halloween Party

So, as we know in season one last episode after Eleven defeats the Demogorgon.  She has disappeared.

Now, in the second season episode 2, it is revealed, that when she disappears she is awake in the Upside down. Then, she escapes from there to the real world but hides in the woods when government officials are looking for her.

At present it is the Halloween party, so Eleven wants to go out but Jim insists she stay in the woods. Now, the pumpkin fields are rooting at a large scale. Therefore, Mr. Hopper tries to investigate and finds that some unusual organic substance is growing in the field.

As this is a Halloween day, the young boys go to play Trick-or-treating. Here, Will tells Mike that he is experiencing some visions from an alternate dimension.

Then, after the party is over, they all return to their house.

After Dustin reaches his home, he finds an unusual & strange creature in his dustbin.

• Chapter 3- New Creature from Upside Down!

Continuing with Stranger Things season 2 recap, In the present day, Nancy wants to tell Barbara’s parents about the death of her daughter. To which she asks Jonathan to help her to tell the truth.

Also, a flashback reveals that Mr. Jim is taking care of Eleven as a father in his grandfather’s old cabin in the woods. The creature found in Dustin’s home is a slug-like animal that he names “D’Artagnan”. Later he shows it to other kids as well.

When Will sees that creature he concludes that it is from Upside Down.

Meanwhile, Eleven feels frustrated in the woods so she decides to escape. Then, she visits the school to see Mike. In between that, Will is experiencing hallucinations of a shadow monster which he decides to face. But, the shadow monster possesses him.

• Chapter 4- Will is possessed

In the fourth episode, Joyce and the young boys try to awaken Will from the unconscious stage. But, after he awakes he behaves strangely & demands to keep the home cold all the time. Also, he is drawing scribbles on the pages.

Now, eleven returns to the woods when she sees Mike talking with another girl. Joyce calls Jim to show him the scribbles that Will is drawing. Then, Mr. Hopper recognizes that the scribbles are vines.

Meanwhile, Nancy and Jonathan are going to tell the truth about Barb’s death to her parents. They are captured by the guards of the Hawkins Lab.

Now, Dr. Owens shows them the portal of the Upside’s Down. Where he reveals that he doesn’t want any foreign agency to know about it.

So, it is better to keep it a secret from everyone. But, Nancy secretly records everything that Dr. Owes tells them.

Later, Mr. Hopper digs into the pumpkin field where he finds a tunnel similar to the alternate dimension.

• Chapter 5 – The Tunnels

In the fifth episode, we see that while digging the tunnels Mr. Jim Hopper is trapped in them.

Now, Will again sees something that shows something about Jim. Then, he draws a map of Hawkins and the pumpkin field where Jim is going.

Also, Dustin traps D’Artagnan in his basement. While Eleven tries to use her powers to communicate with her biological mother. Now, Terry (Eleven’s biological mother) and Eleven are able to communicate with each other using psychic powers.

Where Terry says that she tries to rescue her at the lab but Dr. Brenner gives her brain damaging dose. Also, Eleven comes to learn that Dr. Brenner is also training a girl like her.

In the end, Bob, Will, Mike, and Joyce rescue Mr. Hopper from the pumpkin field. Later scientist also arrives there and set the tunnels on fire. When the tunnel is set on fire, Will starts screaming in pain.

• Chapter 6 – The Dart

As the tunnels are set to fire, Will is screaming in pain. Therefore, he is rushed to the lab. Where Dr. Owens tells everyone that the Shadow monster is a virus. This virus has spread in Will’s Brain and has been controlling him for the last few days.

That is why Will is screaming while damaging the tunnels.

Now, Nancy and Jonathan with the help of Murray send copies of the tape (Dr. Owens’s confession that Nancy secretly records) to all the newspapers across the country.

As Lucas and Maxine become friends. So, Lucas & Maxine regroup with Steve & Dustin. Then, they try to lure D’Artagnan or Dart to a junkyard.

In the junkyard, Dart is flanked by a pack of many small monsters.

Later, again Will is hallucinating that the monster is preventing him from seeing. But, here Will is being manipulated through the Monster.

Meanwhile, a team of people sent via Dr. Owens is attacked by the small monsters. Then, they make their way to the lab.

• Chapter 7 – Eleven’s lost sister – Kali!

So, in the starting scene of episode seven, Eleven travels to Chicago to find the other girl from her biological mother’s memory.

The girl’s name is Kali.

When she finds her, Eleven & Kali realize, there are similar tattoos on their body. Also, Brenner experimented on both of them. So, they conclude that they both are sisters.

It is revealed that Kali possesses the power to create images in people’s minds. Even, she helps Eleven to increase her strength.

Now, they look to kill the man who tortures Terry. So, Eleven, Kali, & Kali’s gang fly to the location of that man named “Ray” to kill him. When Ray is about to die he reveals that Brenner is still alive to which Eleven stops Kali from killing him.

After this event, Eleven in a vision sees that Mr. Hopper and Mike are at the lab and might be in trouble.

• THE FINALE: Shadow Monster

In the starting scene of the Finale episode, Demodogs kills most of the scientists in the lab.

Later, Mike realizes that Will is still possessed by the monster and is a spy to him. So, he convinces Joyce to prevent her son from tracking everyone.

As Will turns unconscious everyone takes his body to the security room of the lab to protect themselves from the monsters. But, later the lab’s power is cut. So Bob decides to reset the buttons to which he succeeds.

On his way to exit doors, “Demodogs” attack Bob and kill him. Now, the remaining survivors are rescued and everyone returns to the Byer’s home.

After that Dustin realizes that this “Shadow monster” is the same as the “Mind Flayer” in the game Dungeons & Dragons.

To which it is concluded that The monster wants to spread in this whole universe. If Mind Flayer is killed that means all the creatures connected to it, including “Will”, everyone can die. So, they decide to close the gate to the alternate dimension to kill it.

But, the monster finds their location and sends a creature to kill them all. In the closing scene, Eleven comes to their help and kills all the creatures.

Stranger Things Season 2 Main Cast & Characters

The monster in season 2 terrorizing the people of Hawkins is “Shadow Monster” or “Mind Flayer”. This is a powerful creature from the alternate dimension i.e. Upside Down. His main target is to seek power and destroy everyone to rule the world.
